Electric vehicle charging stations are a significant investment for any parking facility owner or manager, as they help attract electric vehicle drivers to park and charge at your parking facility.  The Government of Canada is supporting the development of a coast-to-coast network of charging stations to help deploy over 47,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country.

was provided federal funding for this project through the . This project includes funding for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations and hydrogen refuelling stations across Canada. In addition to the Government of Canada’s incentive program, some provinces have also established incentive programs for those who install electric vehicle charging stations.

Below is a list of incentives by province to look out for if you are looking to invest in EV charging stations for your facility.

ONTARIO

The provides funding for the installation of publicly available electric vehicle charging stations in Ontario. The program aims to increase the number of publicly available charging stations, make public electric vehicle (EV) chargers more accessible and affordable, and encourage more individuals to switch to electric vehicles (EVs). The Ontario government website features an interactive map that allows you to search for your address to determine if your community is eligible for funding.

Funding availability is dependent on the application type, the proposed charging technology, and whether your community is eligible for funding.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

The offers rebates for public Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs). The program is open to businesses, non-profit organizations, local governments, Indigenous communities, utilities, and public sector organizations located and operating in British Columbia. The Government of Canada ZEVIP is not stackable with the Clean BC Go Electric Public Charger Program or other CleanBC programs. The program aims to increase the number of installed public charging and hydrogen fueling stations in their communities.

This provincial rebate is open for applications.

Companies registered with can benefit from financial assistance for projects involving the installation of electric vehicle charging stations in the workplace. The use of these EV charging stations would be for any of the company's electric vehicles, employees and, under certain conditions, visitors.

This provincial financial assistance is open for applications.

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

The enables qualified workplaces to apply for a rebate towards the purchase and installation of qualifying Level 2 and Level 3 electric vehicle charging stations for light-duty electric fleet vehicles in public places or on-street. The EV charging stations must be made available for public use or the applicant's employees.

The provincial rebate is now closed for applications as of August 30, 2024.

NEW BRUNSWICK

The is funded by the province of New Brunswick and managed by NB Power. Residents and organizations can receive a vehicle rebate through the Plug-In NB Rebate Program, which allows them to claim 50% of the cost of purchasing and installing a new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging station, with a maximum rebate of $750.

The provincial rebate is now closed for applications as of July 1, 2025.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

Prince Edward Island (PEI) encourages businesses across the province to install electric vehicle charging stations for business and public use. The will support up to 75% of eligible costs for businesses, academic institutions, and community organizations for the installation of EV chargers.

As of March 1, 2023, the province will no longer provide free Level 2 EV charging stations to those who receive the vehicle incentive. This provincial funding program is open for applications until December 2025 or earlier if the funding program is oversubscribed.

NOVA SCOTIA

Currently, the province of Nova Scotia has two programs available through : the EV Ready Approach and the Standalone EV Charger. The EV Ready Approach requires an approved EV Ready Plan to apply for the rebate. This plan must include a minimum of one EV Ready parking space per residential unit in an existing building, and for a new building, all residential parking spaces must be EV Ready. The Standalone EV Charger rebate is designed to assist with the installation of EV charging stations for buildings that are smaller and have more straightforward charging requirements than those addressed by the EV Ready Charger program.

These provincial rebates are open for applications.

ALBERTA

Alberta Municipalities is offering financial rebates to applicants who purchase and install electric vehicle charging stations in Alberta as part of its . The funding will cover up to 46% of the total project costs with a maximum of $100,000 per location. The funding only applies to level 2 and 3 EV charging stations.

The provincial rebate is open for applications.

Yukon

offers rebates of up to 50% of the purchase and installation cost for Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. The program is open to personal residences, commercial or multi-residential buildings and municipal or First Nation government-owned buildings.

The territory rebate is open for applications until March 31, 2026.

Northwest Territories

is designed to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in public places, multi-residential buildings, workplaces, and other locations. Funding is provided by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Government of Canada through the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. The program offers up to 50% of the total cost towards the new project, not exceeding $5,000 per connector for level 2 charging stations and up to $75,000 per charging station for level 3 fast charging stations.

The territory rebate application period is now closed.

Nunavut

Currently, there are no incentives or rebates available in Nunavut at this time.

By leveraging these programs, parking facility owners or managers not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions but also attract a growing market of electric vehicle drivers. Embracing these incentives can offset the installation costs, making it more achievable for businesses to acquire EV charging stations.
